I heard on 610 am a conversation between Chuck Douglas and Matt McCoy regarding the Ohio State Women's basketball team. They were discussing the fact the team is not called the Lady Buckeyes and for that reason we don't get the notoriety around town. Mr. Douglas remembers the days that Katie Smith was there and how much more the team was out there.
Part of the fact that the team doesn't get the notoriety is that the media doesn't cover the women's team as they do the men's. When you go to the women's game there is hardly any radio or tv personalities sitting in the media area. Also when the sports is reported on the local radio and tv stations the women's team is not always mentioned when they have a game. Example of this was last night 12/31 on NBC4, the score of their game with Northwestern was not even mentioned.
I will however give Larry Larson cudos for his coverage of sports on 610 am. He always mentions the Ohio State Women's basketaball team along with other high school girls teams. When it is said "home of the best buckeye coverage" it can be said it is true when Larry does the sports.
